Artemis ist in der griechischen Mythologie die Göttin der Jagd, des Waldes, der Geburt und des Mondes sowie die Hüterin der Frauen und Kinder. Sie zählt zu den zwölf großen olympischen Göttern. Sie ist die Tochter des Zeus und der Leto und Zwillingsschwester des Apollon. Ihr entspricht Diana in der römischen Mythologie.
